Finally, app and website users can take back control of their data
Approximately 15 years ago, social media started appearing on people’s computers. And since then, it has become an overwhelmingly entrenched aspect of peoples’ everyday life. According to research in the U.S., the average email address is associated with 130 online accounts.
Today, more than ever, people are questioning their enrolment into the vast number of apps and websites they have retained over the years. Recent media coverage and greater awareness around personal data privacy risks related to data breaches and data profiteering has many online users deleting apps from their devices. Most users don’t realize that deleting an app from their device can still leave orphaned accounts and data on the app providers’ servers.
Until now, the means to delete user accounts and data from an app developer’s site have been complicated or non-existent. With the introduction of data privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA, app developers must now comply with stricter guidelines. However, two years later, and few app developers have made it easy for users to remove user accounts and personal data.
Appectomy is a mobile app available for both Android and iOS that helps users take back control of their privacy, as required by the law, by simplifying the process to delete data and accounts associated with the apps that users choose to remove from their devices.
